PRINCIPLES OF CHINESE MEDICINE

Chinese medicine is based on the principles of Yin and Yang.   Yin represents the cooling, passive and storing aspects of the bodys operation, while Yang represents the heating, energy and metabolic aspects. In Chinese medicine, health is maintained by affecting a balance between these two opposites.   Through gradual and continual use, the Chinese ginseng is said to supplement and stimulate the Yin and Yang depending on the type of ginseng used.

 

YIN

North American ginseng is considered to supplement and stimulate the Yin.   It is alleged to have a cooling effect on the body, and is used more by the young, the agitated, those in warmer climates and those suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, or weakness of the heart and lungs.

 

YANG

The heating or stimulation effect of Chinese ginseng is considered to be beneficial to those individuals who are in a state of imbalance because of aging, intense or extended physical exertion, exposure to a cold climate, or physical stress resulting from poison, alcohol, life situations, and a hormonal changes such as menopause. Alleged benefits to Chinese ginseng include higher levels of energy, greater resistance to disease, calming of the nerves, and normalizing of the cardiovascular system.

 

KOREAN WHITE AND BC WHITE - YIN

Benefits include: restorative for those who are Yang, improved general health, ideal for an active lifestyle, anti-stress characteristics, adaptogen qualities, cooling tonic, strengthens internal organs.   Believed to help with: high blood pressure, depression, skin dryness, declining performance when fatigued, anemia.

 

KOREAN RED (PANAX) - YANG

Complements vegetarian diets, for use when body is depleted, characterized as healing, used as a tonic for blood. Believed to help with: debilitating effects of old age, disease of the heart, kidney, liver, nervous system, digestive and circulatory systems, decline in potency of older men, asthma, rheumatism and Alzheimers disease.  

 

SIBERIAN TIGER

Siberian Tiger ginseng is classified as a cool ginseng, therefore benefitting the Yin.   Women find Siberian Tiger ginseng most helpful, because of the cooling effect and the characteristics related to the Yin.   When used by men, the effects are different. Men seem to experience a significant increase in energy and alertness even though Siberian Tiger ginseng is a cool ginseng. The active constituent in Siberian Tiger ginseng is Eleuthorococcus senticosus.
